Community centres play a key role in society and Play Place deliver four Community Hubs.

Three of these hubs are owned by Clarion Housing Association and form part of a Community Asset Transfer (CAT) scheme, to provide buildings for activities for the local community. Some of these activities and projects are delivered by Play Place and others by external hiring.

A key focus for all of our work within the hubs is the promotion of positive health and wellbeing, learning and skills and creating spaces for community meetings and cohesion.

The key objectives of the Community Hubs are:

  • Retain a local residents community group of volunteers.
  • Support local needs through mapping
  • Use the well-maintained buildings for the residents of the area by offering a broad range of all age community activities. These may include activities such as: Youth clubs, job clubs, adult learning, Stay and play projects (younger children and carers), community meetings, Café
  • Providing holiday programmes and accreditation projects
  • Maximise the use of the available opportunity that the building provides (Between 10am and 9pm).  In each hub we aim to achieve an 80% capacity
  • Use a social enterprise and fundraising model to enable some users to pay an affordable hire rate for use whilst other community groups would be able to access the space for free (for example, youth clubs and organisations).
