The Dartford Our Space project is currently working in Dartford Town, Stone, Greenhithe, Swanscombe, Temple Hill, Wilmington, Tree and Darenth. The project is delivering 17 sessions of detached and venue based youth activities each week and has registered 700 young people.
Our model has been developed in partnership with Stone Baptist Church and aims to utilise the youth work skills, infrastructure, policies and management capacity of Play Place to:
- Fully use local community assets
- Develop a network of trained volunteers
- Deliver evidenced outcomes
- Reduce future poverty
A local Project Coordinator has developed positive working relationships with other local agencies (For example: District Council Teams, Safer Neighbourhood Teams, Job Clubs, Local Parish Councils and youth support organisations) and they work with community groups and residents across the district. The project is also recruiting and training volunteers who work in the youth projects.
Our Partners at Stone Baptist, Wilmington Christian Fellowship, The Healthy Living Centre, Stone St Mary's and St Mary's Greenhithe deliver youth club projects with the support of Play Place. Kenward Trust deliver street outreach activities with a particular emphasis on areas that have little or no other provision and in rural locations; activities focus on health and well being. Our Space provides clubs and activities for children and young people aged 8 to to 18, (25 with additional needs). The local nature of our approach means that projects are designed to offer a broad range of attractive co-designed activities; we deliver on different nights of the week; offering a five night provision across Dartford.
Dartford Our Space also provides youth, after school, holiday and Play Day events. Holiday and park activities are used to signpost young people to a range of voluntary and community activities that promote:
- Community and family engagement,
- The Youth Hub,
- Youth Clubs
- Improved use of parks.
- Kent County Council
